David’s Story—the Inspiration Behind This Podcast and Website
My life began with challenges that seemed impossible to overcome. As a young child, I was dying and received an experimental treatment intended to keep me alive. Within months, its use in humans was prohibited because of severe side effects. My family was told I would not live to see my twentieth birthday.
At six, I developed juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. Chronic pain became part of daily life. I was the smallest child in school, endured bullying through high school, and couldn’t participate in sports. I tried to hide my pain and fit in, but inside I was struggling.
I graduated at sixteen and entered college on a disability scholarship. After three semesters of trying to keep up and appear “normal,” I experienced a nervous breakdown. The college arranged to put my scholarship on hold so I could leave without penalty.
When the Struggle Grew Deeper
Although the college offered me a way to return, I felt like a failure. Pain and depression pulled me deeper into despair.
Friends took me to a bar, hoping it would help me relax. Drinking soon became another struggle. With alcoholism in my family history, I became caught in it myself. I also turned to drugs, trying to numb the pain.
Instead of finding relief, I found myself sinking further. Eventually, I could see no way forward.
Finding Hope in Jesus
Then I met a young woman who invited me to church. There, I discovered that Jesus was real—and that His love was for me.
When I surrendered my life to Christ, everything began to change. He delivered me from alcohol and drugs, freed me spiritually, and healed a hemorrhaging ulcer. Later, I heard His call to preach in an audible voice.
People came alongside me and helped me learn how to live for Christ. I reached my twentieth birthday—the birthday I had been told I would never see—with a new purpose and hope for the future.
I often wondered how different my childhood might have been if someone had introduced me to Jesus sooner. That question helped shape my desire to bring His love to children and families.
A Life With Purpose
I married a woman who shared that vision and heart for ministry. Together, we had three children, despite what doctors had told me about my ability to become a father.
My life became what I call a “stack of miracles.” Through the struggles, God opened doors to a life of faith, family, and serving others.
When the Doctors Say NO, God Says YES! tells that journey. It is also the story behind this podcast and its purpose: helping people who struggle find hope, encouragement, and a next step.
Whatever you are facing, you don’t have to face it alone.
