I've been involved in ministry over 50 years and it's always been about how can we meet the needs of people who are struggling. So we're welcoming you here to be there with everybody else. This is a place with no judgment, no scorekeeping. Doesn't matter where you've been, what's been done to you or done by you. God created you to love. He has always loved you and He will always love you. You are created from the inside out to be the image of God that has become flesh. We have the privilege to choose to serve the Lord. It doesn't mean people go to church that are always perfect. Matter of fact, the church should be the emergency care room with the body of Christ where the messed up ones get to come and get better and the ones that are doing better can improve and help the next generation. So that's why we're here. We're so glad you're here with us. I brought with me a good friend here. Her name is Dr. Lorette Willis. And I'm just grateful that we've, she and I have been trying to get together for a while because I've been so sure that I wanted to have her on the podcast. And so finally we meet and finally we get this chance. So Lorette, you welcome and would you introduce yourself to our viewers? Yes, absolutely. Thank you so much, David. It is a blessing to be here today. ⁓ I would say, you know, I so appreciate the message of God says yes, because when we look at our lives, God says yes to you. You might say no because of your past, but we want to encourage you today. And I want to encourage you through my story and what the Lord has been able to do. ⁓ through the wreckage of my life in spite of it and maybe even because of it using those things i'd like to say that the only thing that qualifies me for everything i'm blessed to do is everything i've done wrong that the lord has redeemed it brought them out of darkness used the pain of my past the things i've done wrong and have somehow by the amazing grace of God made them into a platform of help, healing and empowerment for others. So be encouraged, you're in the right place today. So, Loretta, what do you do? What do I do? Well, some of the things I do, I'm a cognitive behavioral therapist, which basically is taking neuroscience but combining it with renewing the mind on the Word of God. We see that in Romans 12, 2 to not be conformed to this world like this water is conformed to the shape of this glass. Don't be conformed to the world's ways of doing things. but be transformed. Your whole life can be transformed by the renewing of your mind. On what? On the Word of the Living God. For what purpose? So that you can prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. So what I do, David, is help people to renew the mind on the Word of God and then retrain the brain using neuroscience principles and techniques based on scripture. And I do that through coaching and also a program that we have called weight loss without willpower and then in addition to that I'm blessed to be the founder of Praise Moves which is a Christ centered alternative to yoga. I'm very careful to let people know it's not Christian yoga that's an oxymoron like a Christian Buddhist or Christian Hindu, no such thing, but it's a Christ centered alternative. Now these two things, the weight loss without willpower and Praise Moves, the Christian alternative to yoga, come from my own inadequacies and coping mechanisms and problems of the past. I started emotional eating, compulsive overeating when I was six years old. And for decades, yo-yo dieted, I was in Overeaters Anonymous, a 12-step recovery program for five years when I was in my 30s. I was also a high-functioning alcoholic for many years, from the ages of 13 until I was 29. when I came to the end of myself and immediately the Lord delivered me from alcoholism when I turned my life over to him. I'd been heavily involved in New Age spirituality from the age of seven for 22 years from seven until I was 29. My mom and I getting involved in New Age and all of that through the door of yoga thinking it was just exercise. But as many Hindus will tell you, Yoga is the missionary arm of Hinduism and New Age. So glory to God what the Lord has done has taken those negatives of my past and redeemed them, brought them out of darkness and used them as platforms of help and health and healing for others. That's amazing. God is so creative in what he does with us. Things we never even dreamed of or imagined. I've been told you can't do that, you can't do this, you can't do that. And yet when God gives you the mission, He always prepares you before He sends you. And so I've been able to do so many things that I can't do. I did kids and family ministry for years and I was told that I needed to get serious about God. And yet I was winning more people to the Lord every month. than anybody I knew. And I'm not bragging, I'm just saying I did what God told me and I was obedient and he did the rest. Because I stepped out in faith and I trusted him. And 25,000 people, didn't you say, have been saved through? More than that. Just in the 12 years on the road, by other people's count it was over twenty five thousand commitments well ⁓ it is a good clown the clown ministry that you have yet well it was called the kids celebration service have a big big clean fun and ⁓ it was basically it like a kids crusade and steroids whenever i do anything for god i get my all yet i don't get a half of anything either i'm going to do it or i'm not going to do it i don't have a great i have been yes and no And when I felt God leading me, telling me, pushing me that kids and family was where I needed to be, I couldn't just do a little of it. And I've been to churches where it's, a lady gets up there and says, pray for me as I sing. No, lady, go home and practice. Take good and then come up there and say, worship with me as I You have your best. If you have to apologize, you're not ready. And that's not being mean, it's just being fair. My favorite quote God gave me when I was a brand new believer was that God didn't send his second cousin, Louis, to the cross. He sent his best. How dare we offer less? That is so true. That is true. And to trust the Lord in the process, you know, by those things. He will always call you to do something. that is far greater than anything you could do yourself because if you could do it yourself how could he get any glory for it i call it walking on the water of the word you know just trust and walking by faith and not by sight and that is the strongest most powerful thing you could do because it was by faith that and through faith through the word of god that the lord created the world's we see that in Hebrews 11 3 by faith we understand the worlds were framed by the word of God so the things which are seen are not made of those things that are visible and that's just like quantum physics I call it quantum faith but quantum physics when you look at this pen for example it's made of a bunch of invisible things you're seated on a chair that's made of molecules and electrons and all these invisible things that are moving very very very slowly it's invisible stuff the same with our future the same with our faith the same with what the Lord's calling us to do we start calling those things that be not as though they were in line with what the Lord does in Romans 417 we see that in line with what God is calling us to do what he's calling us to do in his word his promises another word for promises is the royal proclamations of a king because when we think of promises sometimes we think of all promises are meant to be broken else i can help not god's promises their royal proclamations of the king of kings so getting the word of god on the inside of you that was one of the most important things that i did david when i when i left new age when the lord completely delivered me ⁓ from and all ism and i started being discipled at church and i'd developed a voracious appetite for the word of god and was like this is what i've been looking for my whole life i'd spent thousands of dollars looking for god in all the wrong places going to conferences traveling the world backpacking around europe twenty countries in six and a half months went to south america machu picchu going to these so-called sacred sites looking for the geographical cure when all the while it was the necessity of coming to the end of myself and knowing that the Lord was was there all the time just waiting waiting waiting and the Lord will use whatever it takes to bring you to your knees he may not necessarily cause those things but he'll use those things and for me it was loneliness I was ⁓ twenty nine years old ⁓ my parents had both passed away I was their only child my mother sadly had taken her own life when I was 24. My dad died two years later of diabetes and heart disease. were both in their 50s. And I was an actor in New York, comedian, improvisational comedian. I was known as the woman of 101 voices and I continued that even after I became a believer. I'd been in theater and a playwright, director for over 30 years. I did the Betty Boop show off Broadway. Do remember Betty Boop, the cartoon character? Well, I was Betty Boop. I certainly was. Boop, boop, be-doo. And played about 40 other characters. It was just totally wacky. And this was in my B.C. you could say. And the day is spelled D-A-Z-E because I was in a daze. You know, I had a tremendous desire to serve. I wanted to serve, but it was like trying to serve out of an empty soup terrain. There was nothing there ⁓ to give. And the applause was just empty for me. I loved seeing people laugh. I didn't see it that I was making them laugh. That was not it. I loved seeing them enjoy themselves. And when I would get off the stage, was like, this letdown because the first place I ever felt comfortable was on stage. That was my comfort zone. and people would say, ⁓ that's because you could be someone else. No, I wanted to be myself. I felt myself. I felt I could entertain in some way. And the word entertainment comes from a Latin word that means to serve. I wanted to serve in some way. And then at the age of 29, it was after I'd been to Europe, after I'd traveled all around, and I lived in a new age community. I moved from New York City to the top of a mountain. in northeastern oklahoma and after a year of being there david i was still miserable you know i wasn't trying to find myself i wanted to lose myself i wanted to find god i wanted to find the the the lord i was high-functioning alcoholic i smoked i was into all the new age stuff everything from a disease trilogy disorder last renaissance and everything in between and it was nothing but confusion and we know scripture says god is not the author confusion and there was a lot of confusion in that. I felt like a donkey with a carrot dangled in front of its nose, just always following that carrot. The next conference, the next book, the next tarot card reading. I was a psychic, I was a channel, meaning allowing the enemy ⁓ demons to use me, to speak messages and things like that. So by the grace of God, He saved me from... It's amazing I'm still alive. I'll put it that way. I used to have alcoholic blackouts and would wake up running through the streets of New York City. I mean, it's amazing. I know people have prayed for me. So I encourage you who are listening right now, praying for that person that the Lord is putting on your heart right now, because He will do some wonderful things with those prayers. I just know that it's because of the prayers of people like you, that I'm not in a sinner's hell for all eternity. Well, one day, was the day before April Fool's Day. I was 29 years old and I wanted someone to love me for myself. I'd never been married and I had a great desire to find that one who would love me, just for me. And as I turned onto the dirt road to go up the mountain to the home that I purchased in this new age community. And I still felt lonely. I'd been there for a year. And it was like nothing had changed. It was a geographical cure because wherever you go, there you are, right? And as I turned off onto the dirt road, I heard what I believe was the audible voice of God over my right shoulder that I used to hear when I was a little child from the ages of three and a half till six. I used to see visions and I would hear the voice of the Lord. Whenever I was upset, I'd go into my closet and I'd close the door and I'd see this huge vision on the back of the closet door and what I called a Billy Graham full audience. would see, it was like Africa, I would see myself as an older person on stage holding... a microphone in one hand and the other hand raised up and all these people with their hands raised up and i knew they weren't saying wow you're really great lorette it had something to do with god and they didn't do that at saint thomas episcopal church in farmingdale new york right ⁓ so i but i knew it had something to do with god and i must have seen billy graham on television somewhere you know is that we didn't you know about salvation necessarily but must have seen him on on television i would run to my closet i'd see that vision and i would hear what i believe was the voice of the lord over my right shoulder audibly everything is going to be on right and i would dry my little tears and say it's everything's gonna be all right to come out of the closet well that's the voice that i heard over my right shoulder and he asked me a very compelling question david he said what if everything you thought about god was completely wrong would you be willing to give it up to know the truth What if everything I thought about God was completely wrong? I be willing to give it up to know the truth? Yes. Yes, thinking maybe the truth was a new philosophy, maybe another book, maybe it was like not realizing the truth as a person. Jesus, the way, the truth and the life. And I said, yes. And the next day I was in my home on the top of that mountain, just walking around and around the island in the kitchen, my little dog, Tula, border collie, watching me go around and around. And I felt this battle going on on the inside. and i realize later it was the enemy who was pushing me to you know do another tarot reading ⁓ get your crystals go to that conference and get that book out but at the same time the lord was saying surrender surrender the enemy pushes but the draws he draws yeah just come and i finally just cried out i said i surrender i give up You win. And I knew I was talking to Jesus. If you can do something with this life, you can have it. And I fell on my knees. And I said, if you want me to be alone, then give me peace. If you want me to be with someone, send them soon, because I can't live like this anymore. And I fell on my face. And I felt a physical weight lift off me, David, which I... It felt like my body on the earth. felt like my own weight. Like 30 pounds lifted off. Physical weight. And at that moment then peace came upon me for the first time in my life. Not real happiness, but peace. Not serenity, not bliss. I've experienced bliss before and it is the most terrifying, empty experience one could imagine. and that's the top of what you can get in in hinduism in new age and it's empty it was horrible but this peace and then joy from the center of it that joy unspeakable and full of glory and i realized later that at that very moment the lord delivered me from alcoholism i've been drinking almost every day from the age of thirteen to lose twenty nine for sixteen years i never had another drink never even thought about it was it was wiped out of my mind for a full year it wasn't until like a year later i was like didn't i used to drink which is the lord just and four days later i met my husband paul who had three years clean and sober alcohol drugs never came into our relationship that's my story what the lord can do surrender is the greatest freedom you'll ever have so now that Now that we've found out who you were and we found out how you met Jesus, what did that mean to your life? I our viewers are meeting you for the first time and you've changed. mean, obviously God has changed you from the inside out. How can they get a dose of that? You know, they may have been betrayed. They may have been church hurt. I mean, there's all kinds of ways to get upset and hurt and almost give up completely. How do we get from there to a place of peace and hope? I would say surrender at a deeper depth. And if you have not had that experience before, or if it's been a very long time, it would be our great honor to lead you in that experience. And the Lord makes it so very simple to receive him as the Lord and Savior of your life. And you know, I used to argue with that when I was in the new age. It was like, born again. I was born once. That's fine. Or if people wanted to pray for me, I would say, no, don't pray for me. I thought it was manipulation. I was so deceived, you know. So I would invite you to think, well, who would you like to have as the Lord of your life? You know, when we think our very best efforts have gotten us to where we are right now, and if it's not enough, there is one who knows you, who made you, who loves you, who would like you to take you all the rest of the way. Romans 10 9 & 10 makes it so very simple that if you confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord and you believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead you will be saved What does saved mean? Well that salvation that wholeness shalom peace nothing missing nothing broken Made completely whole it's also the power that destroys chaos. That's what shalom peace means in Hebrew and each of us has a missing peace p i e c e on the inside of us which i believe is the missing p e a c e the god she's through the empty hole yes exactly and it's by receiving the prince of peace sar shalom s a r sar shalom which means the prince of peace in hebrew that fills that empty spot within us and nothing else can satisfy no no drug, no relationship, no alcohol, no food, nothing. But only the Lord can. And I asked him once, Lord, why did you make it so simple for people to receive you, to receive that wholeness, to be made brand new? Why did you make it so simple? If you confess Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart God raised him from the dead, you'll be saved. Why did you make it so simple? And I believe David, said in my heart, if it weren't simple, then the simple could not be saved. ⁓ that's so brilliant. So it's us who make it difficult. So I want to invite you to keep it simple. K-I-S-S, keep it simple, sweetheart. That's what the Lord says to you. Let's keep it simple. So right now, let's pray. Heavenly Father, and I invite you to repeat after me if you'd like. Heavenly Father, I come to you in the name of the Lord Jesus. Lord, you know what I've done. You know I've sinned. You know I've made mistakes. Lord, Jesus, be the Lord of my life. Father God, forgive me of my sin. Jesus, come into my heart. Father God, I believe you raised Jesus from the dead. Holy Spirit, be in my heart right now. Live your life through me, Jesus. And Father God, I will love you and serve you all the days of my life. For it's not by might nor by power, but by your Spirit. I have complete peace right now. I am a Christian. I am born again. Jesus is Lord of my life. Father God, love you and I'll serve you all the days of my life. In Jesus name, amen. Now, just for the sake of clarification, I'll add my little two cents in here. people say sin, a lot of people, they've heard so many people use it different ways, they're not sure what a good definition is. I'll give you a biblical one. When you know what right is, and you've done the wrong thing intentionally, that's a sin. When you know in your heart, the Bible even tells us that the laws of the Lord are written on the tablets of our heart. God created us with his law inside of us. Even if we've never been in a building, still we know right from wrong, we know the moral pieces that God built into us. So when we finally realize that when I do that, I know I'm wrong, but I do it anyhow, that's a sin. You don't need a sin checker out there pointing at people and saying, that's between you and God. But you know. And when you betray someone, it becomes ⁓ a scar on your heart, if you will. And the worst part of it is, if someone's betrayed or belittled or done stuff to you, we, as we try to survive and move forward, we will repeat that on someone else. And we will create the pain over again in someone else because we're trying to survive ourselves That's that is that just plain sin The only the Bible tells us that without the shedding of innocent blood. There's no forgiveness for that sin That's how it's been since the beginning so when Jesus came lived a life without any sin and Then took your sin in mind onto himself and allowed himself to be tortured and then crucified and then he died and rose again three days later and shed that blood that he shed was to wash away our sin. Not like a blackboard where you take something and rub it and there's a little bit of white dust left. He takes the blood and you're clean as if you never sinned. You're back to surgical sterile. You're as clean as you can get. And when you're like that, then you're open for God through His Holy Spirit to reveal Himself to you, to help you understand this new life. And when people say born again, it's like, I don't get that. Well, if you're born once, you have your hand, you have your flesh, and you have your mind. So the body, soul, and spirit, there's three parts to you. When you give your heart to Jesus, what you're doing is you're saying, I give you all of me. And that allows His Holy Spirit to come inside and to begin to remove what's damaged, restore what's been turned into something it shouldn't have been, and to rebuild you from the inside out beautifully so that the scars of your past don't have to be the judgment of your future. By the shedding of that blood, the sin is gone, and now through the love of God, you're born a second time with the Spirit of God, and now you can have the room inside of you for God to get rid of all the damage one inch at a time, not like a lightning bolt, but progressively as we live for Him and we hide His Word in our heart. We live for Him and as a result of it living for Him, we have a brand new life. We are born again, this time of the Spirit of God, this time of a new life of promise, this time in a way that we never dreamed of. And that's exactly, we're saying the same thing with different words, but that's exactly what our listeners and viewers need to hear, is that no matter what's happened to you, no matter how it's been done to you, what's been not done to you, it should have been done. know, grudges and bitterness and all that, all they do is push us further away from the love of God. When we play God instead of letting Him be God, ⁓ we poison ourselves. But when we receive God's forgiveness, he he helps us to forgive the people who damaged us so the poison stops and the blood can wash away that and start your life again which is amazing you know when i first heard about forgiveness and how important it is that was difficult for me but then the Lord really highlighted to me the word give in forgive and if i see it as i'm giving that person to the Lord that I'm setting myself free. getting them out of that ⁓ prison that I have really holding myself prisoner and I'm giving that person to the Lord to get what they deserve which is the love that I didn't deserve either because that's the only thing that's going to change them. It doesn't mean that what that person or those people did was right. It means that I'm going to stop poisoning myself, torturing myself. going to stop playing god and i'm going to give that person to the lord now my emotions may not catch up right away because it's a spiritual act and david like you said that we are that triune being as well spirit soul and body we've spirit made in the image of god genesis one twenty six and twenty seven we have a soul our mind will and emotions we live in a body our earth suit the temple of the holy spirit in line with first corinthians six nineteen and all made that distinction in first this alone is five twenty three when he said i pray your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless to the coming of our lord jesus christ so forgiving others forgiving ⁓ those who've done things against us or even institutions whatever just forgiving just forgive is a spiritual act and realize your emotions may not catch up right away And so I do like what David did. He spoke to himself. He said things like, why are you downcast, oh my soul? Hope in God. Or like he said in Psalm 103 verses 1 through 5, he said, bless the Lord, oh my soul, and all that is within me. Bless his holy name. He spoke to himself. So when I've forgiven someone, and maybe I see them at church, you know, or something like that, I feel this twinge on the inside, you know what I'm talking about? That twinge of like, little bit. I talk to myself, I go, now, now, now, now, now, you have forgiven them. Cause I'll even wonder, ⁓ maybe I didn't forgive them because I feel something. It's like, okay, I'm not supposed to walk by feelings. I walk by faith and not by sight. I walk by faith and not by feelings. I have given that person to God and I receive his I receive the Lord's peace. That's Shalom in its place. I've been faithful to what the Lord's called me to do. Now, Lorette, you line up with the Word of the Living God that says that I have forgiven them. And you'll find that in time, your feelings will catch up. Absolutely. And forgive. When we look at how words are built out of more words, give is we give it to God. Forgive means we choose. before we do, before we give, we choose. And then after, as God forgives us, because He chose to forgive us when we didn't deserve to be forgiven, He then tells us to forgive other people and love other people like He loves us. So if I want God's love and His blessing and His healing and His deliverance, I need to clear the path. I need to get rid of all the rubble on the side of the road. I need to ask God to help me get rid of that. to forgive it. don't forgive so that that person is scot-free. I forgive, I choose to forgive in advance so that I am free so God can do his best work in me. That's so freeing when we get that. I think the two things that forgiveness and repentance, know, forgive others and then the moment that we realize, ⁓ I blew it. I made a mistake or that Lord forgive me. please forgive me you know that that keeps us clean too and and keeps our faith fresh i don't want to do anything that dilutes my faith because if i'm yeah because if i feel like ⁓ i'm not right in this area or if i've been speaking death out of my mouth speaking death what do you mean proverbs says that death and life are in the power of the tongue and those who love it eat the fruit thereof A lot of people say, well, know, life and death are in the power of the tongue. No, it doesn't say that. says death and life. And I think that's to really have us pay attention to speak words of life. You know, like the Lord says, you know, I said before you this day, life and death, blessing and cursing, therefore choose life. Now you can speak death to certain things that you do want to have die. Like you want a crop failure of some of those words maybe that we've planted that we're not edifying, you know, just like, okay. Matthew 15 13 says where Jesus said every plant which my heavenly father has not planted will be uprooted and the Amplified says every plant which my heavenly father has not planted will be torn up by the roots And so I think of okay. What are some of those words that I have sown? All right, the sewer sows the word have I been sowing words of the Lord or maybe I've been sowing words of the enemy I've been speaking death and destruction is some things that I shouldn't. Maybe even over myself, well you know I'm getting old, well I'm just like ⁓ I'm losing my mind. Don't say things like that. No, you have the mind of Christ. You know, what can the Lord do through you? It's not about your ability, it's about your availability. I say to him all the time, David, I say to the Lord, I would say at least once a day as a lord if you can use a donkey you can use me. You know, like he used Balaam's donkey. Who by the way that talking donkey in the Old Testament, Balaam's, you know that was a female donkey and I thought that was quite interesting. you know she didn't say hee-haw. She must have said shee-haw. And then also you can be that donkey who wouldn't want to be that donkey that that Jesus rode into Jerusalem Let let us be that donkey that carries Jesus Into those situations of our life at at your assignment your work assignment in church into the supermarket into your relationships Exactly carry the Lord in Now this has been amazing and I'm so grateful that you've taken time to be with us today. Bless people where they're at in their struggles. Give them courage and the strength to step out in faith and trust you even when it doesn't make sense initially because you created us.
